Confirmatory Program

Engineering or Geoscience intern applicants who do not meet the academic qualification criteria for enrollment in the intern program will be assigned the confirmatory program to confirm the level and quality of academic education.

The confirmatory program can be completed in these four ways:

1) Pass Accreditation Exams

  1. Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam offered through US National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES)

  2. Fundamentals of Geology (FG) offered through the US National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG).

2) Confirmatory Exams

Applicants select 3 Technical Exams from the syllabus an applicant was assessed under (refer to the self-assessment).

Engineering:2 exams from group A and 1 exam from group B of the discipline specific part of the applicant's assessment syllabus.
Geoscience:3 exams from group 2A and/or group 2B of the applicant's assessment GKE stream.

3) University-Level Post-graduate Degree

A university-level post-graduate diploma, master's or PhD degree in the same discipline as the bachelor's degree that contains sufficient technical content determined by that can be used to confirm the level of the applicant's undergraduate study. This is determined through the academic assessment process.

4) Work Experience Reporting

A submission of technical competencies through the Competency Based Assessment system if an applicant has more than 4 years of engineering or geoscience experience in the same discipline as the undergraduate education that shows the application of engineering or geoscience principles.

NOTE: EngGeoMB determines if the work experience option is applicable based on the applicant's submitted resume and informs the applicant whether they are being given the option or not. If the applicant successfully submits work experience through the CBA process, confirmatory exams may be waived.

Completion of the Confirmatory Program

When the confirmatory program is successfully completed, and courses or exams to address deficiencies are completed if assigned, the applicant will be declared academically qualified and enrolled as an engineering or geoscience intern and invited to start Competency-Based Assessment.

If an a confirmatory program is not completed, or an applicant is missing one or more years of bachelor level study, the applicant may be eligible to pursue the Specified Scope of Practice License
