On April 3, 1929, the last spike was driven at Churchill, and with the completion of port facilities in 1931, the Hudson Bay Railway was officially declared open. Construction of the railway was a victory for prairie farmers in their long campaign for a rail outlet to the sea on Hudson Bay. To learn more about the Hudson Bay Railway, see the full news story.
